Go fishing during Costa Rica’s rainy season!
People often ask us if fishing is good during rainy season and what you can catch.
Rainy season (also known as green season) on the Pacific Coast in Costa Rica starts around late April or early May, and by the end of November the dry season has often arrived.
You may think: why should I book a trip to Costa Rica when it’s rainy season and even go fishing? We tell you why it´s totally worth it!
You need to know that rainy season doesn’t mean rain 24/7. We prefer the name green season. In particular in the most dry province of the country – Guanacaste – where we are located, rains are not as heavy as in other parts of the country.
Where we are – on the northern Pacific Coast – we can say that fishing is good all year-round. You can catch any fish in any month – you never know. Even during dry season you can have a bad day of fishing. The chances of great fishing are surely much higher during this time of year as you can count on a cloudless sky and no rains. On the other side, fishing can be shocking good between May and October. Especially after some heavy rainfalls, when woods from the rivers drift into the ocean, make it a perfect attraction for the Dolphin fish, also known as Mahi Mahi or Dorado. It’s also the more gorgeous season: lush green everywhere, full rivers and great colors everywhere. You might even catch a glimpse of whales when coming between July and October.
