High Fishing Season in Costa Rica is starting!
High fishing season on the Pacific Coast in Costa Rica starts in December, when the heavy rains stop and the water is clearing up. Are you in Sámara over Christmas and are looking for some fishing opportunities? Why not try catching snapper, grouper, snook, dorado…or roosterfish!

Roosterfish are caught all year round in Costa Rica, they don’t really have a season. They are caught from southern to northern Costa Rica throughout the year. As for the Sámara area, December is one of the best months for catching roosterfish. They get more active around that time of the year because the schools of sardines are coming closer to shore. The dorsal fin consists of seven long spines called the Rooster Comb. It can reach up to 45 kg in weight and is a popular game fish.

Fishing es generally better in the Sámara area during the month of December, where the winds are not as rough as they can get more up north of the coast in Guanacaste.
